Day 1 Tirana Airport - Durres
Arrival at Tirana Airport. We meet our Albanian local guide and drive to Durres, one of Albania's oldest cities, the country's main sea port, the second largest industrial Centre after Tirana. Durres lies on a small peninsula on the coast of the Adriatic Sea. The city was colonized by the Greeks in 627 B.C. Named Epidamnos, which later became Dyrrachium. From the Venetian Tower at the harbor, the Medieval Town Wall leads to the Amphitheatre (capacity 15,000 spectators) dating back to the 2nd century AD and containing an early Christian Crypt with a rare wall mosaic. Between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD, Durres was an important port and trading center on the Via Egnatia trading route between Rome and Byzantium (Istanbul). After a great number of earthquakes, the main part of old town sank into the sea or collapsed and was subsequently built over. Visit of the Amphitheatre and the Archaeological Museum. Overnight and dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 Durres – Tirana - Uka - Durres
After breakfast we will drive to Tirana, the Capital City of Albania. Begin of the Tour of Tirana City. It starts with a visit at Skanderbeg Square, followed by a stop at the Mosque of Et`hem Bey built in 1830. The Opera House (National Theater of Opera and Ballet) looks over the Scanderbeg Square. A walk in the main boulevard provides a close sight of the City Hall and a number of Governmental buildings, on both sides. You cannot miss the national gallery of Arts along this walk. Continue walking to the former Communist Residential area, with modern bars, restaurants and pubs populated by different age groups, especially Albanian youth. Coffee time in the sky Tower: a rotating bar, where you can enjoy a Fantastic view of Tirana. Continue to Farma & Winery Uka where we visit the farm and have lunch. After lunch we will drive back to the hotel.
Day 3 Durres – Kruja - Durres
After breakfast the tour continues with the visit to Kruja, one of the biggest cities in Northern Albania, the “city of history” and best known as hometown of Albanian’s National Hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg. Visit to the Castle, Skanderbeg Museum and Ethnographic Museum. After the visit of the castle, it is free for you to explore Kruja’s old bazaar with authentic and antique shops. Lunch in traditional Restaurant with live music & dance show. After lunch we will visit a family house where we can meet with local people, visit the house & try the homemade national drink Rakia. Then drive to our hotel in Durres.
Day 4 Durres – Gjirokastra - Saranda
This morning depart to Saranda via Gjirokastra. Gjirokastra is known as “Museum City”, where the dwelling houses have the form of medieval towers constituting a building ensemble with a characteristic architecture. Visit the Castle and the Museum of Weapons. Lunch in traditional restaurant where we can try local food. Depart to Saranda, the hillside town facing the sea, famous for its magnificent “Butrinti” archeological site. Visit the “Blue Eye” spring, formed by underground springs and the unusual church of St. Nicholas at Mesopotam with its fine carvings of mythological beasts.
Day 5 Saranda – Butrint – Ksamil - Saranda
Today we experience an included excursion to Butrinti Archaeological Site. Visit the Temple of Aesclepios, the Baptistery, Nymph, The Theatre, Lions Gate, the Acropolis, etc. Balance of the day is at leisure to relax or explore on your own. After the Butrinti visit, we will go to Ksamil Village: one of most famous beach side villages, with nice sandy small beaches. We will have fish lunch in a restaurant by the sea. Drive to Saranda for overnight at the Hotel.
Day 6 Saranda - Lekuarasi - Saranda
After breakfast we will have a boat trip around Saranda village for 2 hrs. Back to Saranda for lunch, in the afternoon we will drive to Lekuarasi castle to enjoy the sunset, back to our Hotel. Dinner in a local restaurant .
Day 7 Saranda – Himara – Llogara - Berat
After breakfast drive up to Albanian Riviera. En route making a short visit to the bay of Porto Palermo, where the castle of Ali Pasha is situated. Continue climbing to 3,000 feet where you can enjoy the best views, as we drive through the fertile slopes and villages. Drive along Himara, Dhermi coastline and stop for a special lunch in a traditional restaurant , enjoying the wonderful scenery among the pinewoods. Afternoon arrival in Vlora: a historical and coastal city. Continue to Berat - the other “Museum City”. Overnight in Berat.
Day 8 Berat - Tirana Airport
A morning tour of marvelous city of Berat - known as “the city of thousand windows” .Visit the lovely painted Mosque of the Bachelors and the Tekke of the Helvetis with its beautiful portico. Visit to Onuphri Icon Museum that contains some of the finest examples of his work as well as other outstanding Albanian artists. Stop for the lunch at restaurant in Durres before driving to the airport.
